Power, data and lighting are planned in from the first design conversation, whether that's a dedicated office circuit, a shower room for a garden gym, or simply enough sockets for a full home cinema setup.

Garden rooms are built on either an insulated raft foundation or ground screw piles, depending on ground conditions and whether the room needs to carry plumbing.

Walls are timber-framed and fully insulated before the external finish — brick, render or composite cladding — goes on to match your house or fence line.

Questions we're asked most about garden rooms

Most garden rooms fall under permitted development as an outbuilding, provided they stay single-storey, sit behind the principal elevation, and don't cover more than half the garden when combined with existing outbuildings. We check the specifics for your plot before design work starts.

Yes — that's the point of the design. Insulated walls, roof and floor, plus double or triple glazing, mean a garden room holds its temperature far better than a traditional summerhouse or glazed conservatory, and can be heated efficiently with a small panel heater or electric radiator.

Ground screw piles are the quickest option and cause minimal disruption to the garden, while a concrete raft foundation is better suited to larger rooms or where plumbing is being installed. We'll recommend the right base once we've seen the ground conditions.

Yes, both are common. Electrics are run via a dedicated armoured cable back to the consumer unit, and plumbing can be connected where a shower room, kitchenette or garden bar is part of the design — this needs to be planned in from the start, so let us know early in the design process.
